This week, customers were finally able to buy the highly-anticipated Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR. But if you were hoping to get your hands on Apple’s new desktop computer, you might want to check the price of the Mac Pro and Pro Display XDR first.
Mac Pro Price
This is the first Mac Pro that Apple has released since 2013, when they released the “trash can” model that was widely criticized for not being customizable. And, while Apple has made their new Mac Pro fully customizable, it can cost you more than $52,000 to upgrade the new Mac Pro – and that’s without a monitor.
However, Apple isn’t marketing its new desktop for average users. According to Apple, the new Mac Pro was “created to let a wide range of professionals push the limits of what is possible.” That fact is obvious when you look at the specs of the fully-upgraded Mac Pro.
Mac Pro Specs
If you got the fully-loaded Mac Pro, it would come with a 28‑core Intel Xeon W processor, 4TB of SSD storage, and Two Radeon Pro Vega II Duo graphics cards.
You can also spend up to $25,000 on a whopping 1.5TB (1,500 gigabytes) of DDR4 memory. Compared to most desktop computers, which come with 4-16GB of RAM, the new Mac Pro can have more memory than the vast majority of users will ever need.

Some of the other upgrades include an Apple Afterburner card for $2,000, a new dark Magic Mouse and Trackpad for $150, and a set of stainless steel wheels for the tower that cost $400.
However, if you’re not willing to spend that much, you can get the Mac Pro base model without any upgrades for $6,000. For that price, you would get an 8-core Intel Xeon W processor, 256GB of SSD storage, 32GB of DDR4 RAM, and a Radeon Pro 580X graphics card. This is sufficient enough for most users, but it is still more expensive than most desktops with the same specs go for these days.
For example, you could buy a 2017 iMac with the same amount of RAM, a similar processor, and a comparable graphics card and for under $5,000 on Amazon. And the iMac would come with 1TB of SSD storage and a monitor.
Pro Display XDR Price and Specs
Apple claims that the new Pro Display XDR, which costs anywhere from $5,000 to $7,000, is “the world’s best pro display.” In fact, Apple made a new category for this new monitor. Instead of being a High Dynamic Range screen, Apple calls it an Extreme Dynamic Range (XDR) screen.
But, while Apple claims that this is the “first 32-inch Retina 6K display ever,” Dell already had a 32-inch 8K monitor, which is on sale for less than $4,000 now – and it comes with a stand.
If you buy the fully-loaded Mac Pro along with the new Pro Display XDR, you could pay as much as $60,000 before taxes. To put that into perspective, that’s just under the US median income last year, according to US Census Bureau data. That means half of Americans would need to spend around a year’s salary for the fully-upgraded Mac Pro and the new monitor. Or, you could buy the new self-driving dual-motor Tesla Cybertruck, and you would have enough left over to go out for a nice dinner.
