You might be able to get a slow brew at your favorite coffee joint, but where should you go if you want fast WiFi? Thankfully, the good people at PCMag have conducted a study to see which coffee shops have the fastest WiFi download and upload speeds.
PCMag gathered data from 100,000 WiFi tests conducted between August 1, 2018, and August 10, 2019. They used the Ookla Speedtest app on Android and iOS devices. Only coffee shops that conducted more than 100 tests over the past year were included in their results. These coffee shops were Caffe Nero, Capital One Cafe, Caribou Coffee, Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, Dunkin’ Donuts, Joe & the Juice, Krispy Kreme, Peet’s, Philz, Starbucks, and Tim Hortons.
Coffee Shops With the Fastest WiFi
If you’re looking for a coffee shop with fast WiFi, your top three choices are:
- Joe & The Juice
- Dunkin’ Donuts
- Starbucks
Here are is a chart of PCMag and Speedtest.net’s test results from slowest to fastest download speeds, for easy referencing:
To put these speed tests in perspective, Netflix recommends having a connection speed of 25Mbps (megabits per second) or higher to stream Ultra HD quality videos. So you should be able to stream 4K videos in any of the top three coffee shops.
As you can see, the speed difference between Joe & the Juice and Dunkin’ Donuts is not that much. Since you are more likely to find a Dunkin’ Donuts in your neck of the woods than the new coffee and juice chain, the American company might be your best choice. But, if you would rather have a fruit smoothie while you work, you can’t go wrong Joe & The Juice.
What and Where is Joe & the Juice?
Joe & the Juice is a Danish chain of coffee shops and juice bars. They have over 300 locations all over the world, with shops in North America, Europe, Asia, and Australia. They were founded in 2002, but they only expanded to the United States in 2017. According to PCMag, the fact that they are new (and have new tech) contributed to their impressive WiFi speeds.
In the US, they have branches in San Francisco, Los Angeles, Chicago, Miami, Washington DC, and New York. Their New York locations had the fastest, with speeds of over 100Mbps in Manhattan.
