Samsung recently announced its newest midrange 5G smartphone at the 2022 ‘Galaxy A’ event. According to Samsung, the A-Series lineup was designed for “anyone who wants the quality and innovation synonymous with Samsung at a great price.” Here’s everything you need to know about the new Samsung Galaxy A53, its specs, price, release date, and how it compares to other budget-friendly 5G smartphones.

Samsung Galaxy A Event

Last week, Samsung held its 8th-annual Galaxy A event, announcing two new budget smartphones. However, the tech company did not say how much the Galaxy A33 would cost in the US, which indicates that only the A53 will be released in North America.

While the virtual keynote wasn’t as long as one of Apple’s iPhone events, Samsung does take its A-Series lineup seriously, calling it “the most popular Galaxy smartphone category.” In fact, the Samsung Galaxy A12 was the second best-selling smartphone in the first 9 months of 2021, according to the International Data Corporation (IDC).

Galaxy A53 Specs

Like the Galaxy A52 released last year, the A53 has a 6.5-inch AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate. Both models are also water-resistant and come with 6GB of RAM, 5G connectivity, and a quad-camera system featuring a 64MP (megapixel) main camera on the back.

But there are some differences between the Galaxy A53 and the A52. The Galaxy A53 doesn’t come with a headphone jack. Plus, the newer model features a faster processor, a bigger battery, and a smaller price tag.

Faster Processor

The Galaxy A53 looks similar to last year’s A52 on the outside, but the newer model does come with a totally new processor, which Samsung claims is just 6% faster than the A52. On the other hand, the GPU performance is allegedly 33% faster, which allows the A53 to power the latest features.

Bigger Battery

The new Galaxy A53 has a 5,000mAh (milliamp-hour) battery, which is over 10% larger than the 4,500mAh battery in the A52. However, Samsung claims that both models will last up to 2 days on a single charge.

In addition, both models have 25W fast charging, which means the Galaxy A53 will charge as fast as the Galaxy S22 and faster than any iPhone on the market.

More Updates

One of the biggest differences between the Galaxy A53 and previous models is that Samsung now guarantees this phone will receive four Android OS updates and five years of security updates. This is the same guarantee that Samsung offers with its flagship phones.

This is perfect if you don’t want to go out and buy a new smartphone for another four or five years, but you still want to use the newest features. With the pace that technology changes these days, this is not something you will find with most budget smartphones on the market.

Galaxy A53 vs iPhone SE

Samsung’s Galaxy A event happened just days after Apple held its ‘Peek Performance’ event, where the third-generation iPhone SE was announced. And while the Galaxy A53 looks like a more expensive smartphone, the iPhone SE comes with Apple’s most powerful processor.

On the other hand, the Galaxy A53 has a 120Hz 6.5-inch AMOLED screen, which is bigger and brighter than the iPhone SE’s 60Hz 4.7-inch LCD screen. Also, the iPhone SE only has a single 12MP camera on the back, while the Galaxy A53 has four rear cameras, all of which can work together to keep your shots in focus.

Apple also added wireless charging to the latest iPhone SE model, a feature that is missing in the Galaxy A53. However, while the iPhone SE supports fast charring, it only has a maximum speed of 18W (Watts) compared to the Galaxy A53, which can charge up to 25W.

So, if you are looking for a sleek phone to take pictures with, the Galaxy A53 might be the better choice for you. But, if you are looking for a fast phone that will be able to keep up with technology down the road, you might want to get the iPhone SE instead.

Galaxy A53 vs Google Pixel 5A

When it comes down to it, the Pixel 5A and the Galaxy A53 are very similar phones. The Galaxy A53 is slightly larger with a slightly better screen, while the Pixel 5A has a slightly better build quality. But it really depends on your preferences, and you won’t miss much getting one over the other.

One of the biggest differences is that the Galaxy A53 has a MicroSD card slot that lets you add up to 1TB of space, so you never run out. Also, the Pixel 5A is almost a year old now, and with Samsung’s 4 OS update guarantee, the Galaxy A53 will probably give you better value for your money.

Samsung Galaxy A53 Price and Release Date

You can pre-order the Samsung Galaxy A53 5G now, and it will be released on April 1st with a starting price of $450. It only comes with a single configuration of 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage, but you can get it in a variety of colors, including black, white, and the new Peach and Blue.

While this does mean the A53 is slightly more expensive than the new iPhone SE, it’s only by $20. And, it is the same price as Google’s Pixel 5A, which was released last year, and it’s actually $50 less than the A52 that was also released last year.

Plus, if you act now, you can also get a pair of Galaxy Buds Live for free. Samsung says these wireless earbuds will automatically connect to the Galaxy A53 and allow you to quickly switch to other devices or share music with your friends without disconnecting.
