The HTC U12 Plus is the latest flagship phone from the Taiwanese Consumer Company, HTC Corporation. For the U12 Plus, HTC reused the surface design they first introduced in 2017. The design adds subtle color changes in layers of glass on the back of the phone.
There are three colors for this Liquid Surface Design: Translucent Blue, Ceramic Black, and Flame Red. These colors will change when the glass back is exposed to light.
The phone uses a scratch- and damage-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass 3 on both the front and back. The back of the phone also features dual rear-facing cameras and a fingerprint sensor. The U12 Plus has a larger display than the U11, and the bezels surrounding the U12’s screen are thinner, but they are not as inadequate as the bezels of other flagship smartphones. There is a dual front-facing camera in front of the screen, but no notch at the top.
The U12 Plus has a 6-inch Super LCD display with a resolution of 2,880 x 1,440 pixels (or 537 pixels per inch). The unit has also adapted the OLED technology.
The phone has two speakers: one bottom-firing speaker and one on the earpiece and its audio technology is still utilizing “BoomSound.”
Another great thing about the U12 Plus is that it is water-resistant with an IP68 rating, which means that this phone can survive in a pool.
Other HTC U12 Plus Features
With its release, HTC has brought back the Edge Sense feature for the U12 Plus. With this feature, you can set different functions when you squeeze the phone, depending on how hard you press.
They also introduced a new gesture that lets you double-tap each side of the phone. By default, this gesture will put the phone into the “one-handed mode.” The U12 Plus also has regular volume and power buttons that stick out of the phone, but they cannot be pushed down. These buttons are touch-sensitive, so a simple touch will give you the same function.
HTC U12 Plus has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor, 6GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of storage. If you want to add more storage, there is a MicroSD card slot that expands your storage. The phone uses a USB Type-C port and comes with Bluetooth 5.0
The camera has a lot to offer too. The two rear cameras have a 12-megapixel lens and one 16-megapixel telephoto lens. This camera also has features like an optical zoom of up to 2x and digital zoom up to 10x and phase detection. It has a Bokeh mode in real-time similar to iPhone X’s Portrait Mode.
The 3,500mAh battery also supports Quick Charge 3.0, which means that it can charge up to 50% in just 35 minutes.
This new HTC flagship phone is now available in Translucent Blue and Ceramic Black. The 64GB model starts at $800, and the 128GB starts at $850.
