When Google rolls out a new update for its Android mobile operating system, the first thing the company usually does is test the software by launching beta versions of the update on its own devices. Next, the company releases the final official version of the operating system to its Pixel devices, and, eventually, to other popular Android devices over the next several months.
Now, the latest mobile operating system to come out from Google is Android 10. Last March 13, Google launched the first beta of Android 10, under the name “Android Q.” It was exclusively released on the first-generation Pixel devices, like the Pixel and Pixel XL. On August 22, Google renamed the new update to Android 10, which ended the company’s long practice of naming its OS versions after desserts. After that, the official version of Android 10 was finally released on September 3.
When Will Your Phone Get Android 10?
Android 10 has already arrived on a number of phones since it was released on September 3, and it’s expected to be released on many other popular devices by the end of 2019.
For starters, most Google Pixel devices from the first-generation Pixel and Pixel XL now have Android 10, including the Google Pixel 2, Google Pixel 2 XL, Google Pixel 3, Google Pixel 3 XL, Google Pixel 3a, and the Google Pixel 3a XL. The same day Android 10 came out on these devices, Xiaomi’s Redmi K20 Pro and the Essential Phone also got the updates. However, the first phone ever to get Android 10 pre-installed is the OnePlus 7T and OnePlus 7T Pro.
Last month, the Huawei Mate 20 Pro and Nokia 8.1 got the Android 10 update, while the One UI Android 10 beta was released for the Samsung Galaxy S10. This month, it’s expected to arrive on the ASUS Zenfone 6, the Huawei P30, and the Huawei P30 Pro through the latest stable EMUI 10.
Many devices from Nokia, Samsung, Sony, LG, Motorola, OnePlus, Xiaomi, and more are also expected to get it either before the end of this year or by the first or second quarter of 2020.
Before the end of the year, you can expect the Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 9 PureView, Xiaomi Redmi K20, Xiaomi Mi 8, Xiaomi Mi 9, and more from Samsung, Sony, and Motorola to get the Android 10 update. However, if you have an older Nokia phone, the OnePlus 7 Pro, Redmi Note 7, or Samsung’s latest Galaxy S11, you might have to wait until next year to get Android 10.
Android 10 brings tons of new features to your Android device, like a new gesture navigation system, improved privacy and security features, a system-wide dark mode, and much more. Here are some of the top new features you’ll get when you upgrade to Android 10.
What’s New in Android 10?
One of the most interesting features you’ll find in Android 10 is the system-wide Dark Theme mode. To activate this mode, you can either turn on the Battery Saver mode or use the dedicated Dark Theme quick settings button. Once activated, Dark Theme allows you to save your battery life and change the way your apps look. You can also use third-party apps in dark mode as long as you leave it activated.
Android 10 also comes with a new full-screen gesture system to make it easier for you to navigate your phone. You can swipe from either side of your phone’s screen to go backward or forwards, swipe up to pull up your home screen, or swipe diagonally from a bottom corner of your display to open Google Assistant.
What’s more, Android 10 comes with improved privacy and security features. You can now get security updates quicker and easier directly from Google Play. This means your device can get all the important software fixes it needs the same way your apps do. You also get new security controls, like adjusting all your privacy settings in one place, or restricting apps to only have access to your location data as you are actively using them in.
