How High Should a 55 Inch TV Be Mounted?

For the best viewing experience, the middle of your TV should be at eye-level, which is usually around 42 inches high. This means a 55-inch TV should typically be mounted about 28.5 inches from the floor to the bottom of the TV.

To determine how high you should mount your TV, you first have to find the center of your TV. A 55-inch TV is usually 27 inches tall. To make sure, you can also measure it yourself with a measuring tape to be more accurate.

Then, divide the height of your TV by two in order to get the center point of the TV, which would be around 13.5 inches. Next, subtract that number from how high your eye level is when you’re sitting on the couch, which is usually around 42 inches. So, in most cases, you will want to mount your 55-inch TV 28.5 inches from the floor to the bottom of your TV.

Note: Television manufacturers measure their TV from one corner to another, so you shouldn’t use your TV’s 55-inch screen size to find its center point.

Using the floor as the starting point, measure up the wall and find the 42-inch mark. The middle point of your TV should be on this 42-inch mark. But, since it might be difficult to tell if your TV will work with your furniture, you can find the distance from the bottom of the TV to the floor instead.

It is important to note that the 42-inch eye-level figure is based on averages. If you’re shorter or taller than average, or you have a smaller or larger seat/sofa, your eye level may vary. To find your exact eye-level, you can sit on your couch and measure the length from the ground to your eyes.

You can also mount your TV higher or lower than recommended. This is all up to your preference. But do note that experts do not recommend mounting your TV higher than your eye level because it can lead to you craning your neck upwards for extended periods, which might lead to neck strain.
