How to Export, Save, and Import Chrome Bookmarks

Whether you just bought a new computer or you just want to start using a different browser, Google Chrome makes it easy to save all your bookmarks. Then you can import them to a new computer or browser, so it will feel just like your old one. Here’s how you can export, save, and import Chrome bookmarks, so you can transfer them to another computer or have a backup.

How to Export and Save Your Chrome Bookmarks

To export and save your bookmarks, open Chrome and click the three-dot icon in the top-right corner. Then go to Bookmarks > Bookmark manager and click the three-dot icon to the right of the search bar. Finally, select Export Bookmarks and choose where to save your Chrome bookmarks.

  1. Open a Chrome window and click the three-dot icon in the top-right corner.
  2. Then hover over Bookmarks. This will open a pop-up menu.
  3. Next, click Bookmark manager. Clicking this will open a new tab.

    Note: You can also access this tab by pressing the Control + Shift + O keys on your keyboard at the same time. Or you can paste chrome://bookmarks/ into your address bar and hit enter.

  4. Then click the other three-dot icon in the top-right corner of your window. This is not the same three-dot icon you clicked on before.You will find this just below the other three-dot icon and to the right of the “Search bookmarks” bar.
  5. Next, click Export Bookmarks. Clicking this will open the File Explorer on a Windows computer or the Finder on a Mac computer.
  6. Finally, choose a name and destination and click Save. If you want to transfer your Chrome bookmarks to a new computer, you can save the HTML file to a flash drive or an external hard drive. Or you can save your Chrome bookmarks to your desktop and email it to yourself as an attachment.

Once you export your Chrome bookmarks, you can then import them on a new computer. Follow the steps below to find out how:

How to Import Bookmarks to Chrome

To import your bookmarks, open a Chrome window and click the three-dot icon in the top-right corner. Then go to Bookmarks > Bookmark manager and click the other three-dot icon in the top-right corner. Finally, click Import and select the HTML file you previously exported.

  1. Open a Chrome window and click the three-dot icon in the top-right corner.
  2. Then go to Bookmarks > Bookmark manager.
  3. Next, click the other three-dot icon next to the search bar. You will find this to the right of the “Search bookmarks” bar.
  4. Then click Import Bookmarks. Clicking this will open the computer’s Open file dialog box and prompt you to load a file. Choose the HTML file you saved to import your Chrome bookmarks.
  5. Finally, select the saved bookmarks HTML file and click Open. All your bookmarks will then be imported.

Once you import your bookmarks, you can find them in your bookmarks bar under a folder called “Imported.” You can then move them to your bookmarks bar by going back to the Bookmark Manager, selecting them, and dragging them to your new Bookmarks bar.

How to Import Bookmarks in Safari

To import your saved bookmarks in Safari, open the web browser and then click File in the top-left corner of your screen. Then hover your mouse over Import From and select Bookmarks HTML File. Finally, select your bookmarks file and click Import.

How to Import Bookmarks in Edge

To import bookmarks to Edge, open the browser and click the three-dot icon in the top-right corner. Then go to Profiles > Import browser data > Choose what to import. Finally, use the drop-down menu to select Favorites or bookmarks HTML file and click Choose file.
